Overall, the prices in the US were stable, while those in three other countries had changes. Additionally, the rank of four nations was almost stable throughout the period.
To begin with, the US had the lowest prices of bananas, with about 0.8 USD which was lower than Germany around 0.7 dollars in 1994. The banana market value in the USA experienced a considerable rise to over 1 USD in 1995. This figure then stayed constant until 2004. Whereas, the costs in Germany fluctuated between 1,2 and 1,5 dollars until 2002 in which the prices remained stable at around 1,2 USD.
With regards to Japan, bananas cost consumers about 2 dollars per kg which was the highest of all. Those prices increased dramatically and peaked at about 3 USD in 1995. Then, they witnessed a sharp decline to approximately 1,5 dollars in 2001 and grew again by 1 dollars in 2004. Regarding France, the prices were lower than those of Japan by 0,3 dollars in 1994. The market value of bananas had no change till 1997; after that, it underwent a seven – year period of volatility between 1,0 and 1,8 dollars and ended at around 1,6 USD in 2004.
