The chart illustrates the number of landline telephones per thousand people in various countries over a five-year period.
Overall, in all four years, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam had the highest number of phone owners per thousand, while Lao PDR and Myanmar accounted for the smallest proportions.
In both 2000 and 2002, Singapore had the largest number of landline telephones per thousand people, with approximately 460 and 458 per thousand, respectively. However, this number marginally dropped to 440 per thousand in 2004. In contrast, the proportion of landline telephones in Brunei Darussalam remained around 250 per thousand in 2000 and 2002, but declined slightly to approximately 230 per thousand in 2004.
The number of phone owners in the Philippines varied between 75 and 100 per thousand, while Vietnam experienced an increase from 25 per thousand to roughly 50 per thousand during the same period. In contrast, the remaining countries each had fewer than 100 telephones per thousand people in any given year.
