Band 5+: Financial education should be a mandatory component of the school program. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is widely believed that financial education should be compulsory element of school programs. I totally agree with this statement, as it will help them to plan their future effectively and also affect the overall economy of a country. However, this can pressurize them to be money minded.

To start with, money management is the most important skill that one can acquire during adolescents. This is to say that introduction of financial programs can help them to plan their future goals. They will be introduced to the concept of financial freedom. Not only this, but the introduction of these subjects may result in an overall economic development of the country as well as the individuals. They will avoid spending money on unnecessary things as they will accountable of their money. It is very important for an adult to understand the importance of money. For instance, the board of secondary higher education in India has introduced basic investment education in the curriculum.

However, this may have several negative effects. Children will become more money minded and may shut their creative intellect. Forcing them to study might pressurize them that may result in decline in overall performance if a student. Students will forget the importance of ethics and morals in their lives. In my opinion, they should not be forced to study these subjects, but a minimum understanding of money should be compulsory for them. For example, a student good in creative subjects should not force to spend a huge amount of time on these subjects, though a basic knowledge should be introduced as a secondary subject.

In conclusion, although these subjects might have several negative effects, such as money minded ethics and low morals, but these topics can make them understand the importance of money and economy.
