Children’s fiction followed a similar pattern, but to a lesser extent. Despite sharing similar figures with adult fiction, sales of children’s fiction increased slightly to 25% over four decades.
Regarding the remaining categories, despite being the leading category at the start, miscellaneous books underwent a dramatic fall, dropping from 25% in 1972 to 12% in 2012. Similarly, the figure for sale in biology decreased sharply, with a fall of 12% from 20% in 1972.
