In recent years, overseas education has become increasingly popular among university students. This experience provides cultural diversity and personal growth, both of which are beneficial for their future prospects. However, it comes with its own challenges such as financial burden and homesickness. This essay will argue that the advantages of studying in a foreign country surpass its challenges, making it a valuable experience for students.
One of the advantages of international education is networking opportunities. Socializing with people from diverse demographic backgrounds allows students to build valuable connections, which is beneficial for their professional growth and career prospects. For instance, a study by LinkedIn found that 60% of professionals with diverse connections got referrals from big tech companies such as Google and Amazon. Also, foreign education provides learners with advanced knowledge, broadening their horizons. They can gain hands-on experience with the latest technologies and have access to a variety of courses, which otherwise, would be unavailable in their homeland. For example, 40% of data science students in Pakistan are unable to complete their final-year projects due to a lack of hardware resources, which results in lower grades.
Those opposed to this say that studying abroad leads to loneliness. However, foreign universities provide various hostels where students can stay in shared rooms, enabling them to overcome social isolation. To illustrate this, during my student exchange program in Malaysia, I shared accommodation with 2 scholars, which allowed me to build strong connections.
On balance, the fact that studying in a foreign country leads to building new social networks and advanced education clearly outweighs the argument that students feel socially isolated.
