The table given below illustrates how many migrants employed temporarily in four countries, namely Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA in two years, in 2003 and 2006, and the number of these temporary employees per 1,000 people in the given four countries in 2006.
Overall, the number of temporary migrant workers increased in all countries by 2006, however, the USA had three times more migrant employees than the UK and Australia while New Zealand had the smallest number of these workers.
It is evident that, while the employment number of foreign workers was the greatest amount in the USA in both years at 577,000 and 678,000, respectively, New Zealand had the smallest number of overseas employees, at 65,000 in 2003 and grew slightly to 87,000 in 2006. Also, Australia was the second place with 152,000 employees in 2003, the UK took this place in 2006 by reaching at 266,000 workers from 137,000.
Regarding the comparison between migrant workers and the total population, New Zealand outnumbered all other three countries with 21,1, then New Zealand took second place with 10,7 per 1,000 people. However, this number was lower in the USA and the UK which was under 5.
