The given line graph provides the information regarding the distribution of the elderly population in three countries ,spesifically aged 65 and over, from 1940 to 2040, with the projections up to 2040.
Overall, all three different countries experienced an upward trend with wider fluctuations. At the beginning, USA was in first place with almost ten percent .However, it is expected that the number of elderly people living in USA will drop to third place and Japan will become first place at the end of third period.
In 1940, the percentage of the people aged 65 and over accounted for 10 percent. Then, it exhibited an increase first steadily and sharply between 1940 and 1960; and 1960 and 1980, respectively. During the 40-year period onwards 1980, the proportion of the elderly people in the population stayed essentially unchanged. In further expectations, it is predicted that it will dramatically rise, reaching its highest point at almost 28%. For Sweden, it oscillated from 1940 to 2020s, then it is expected to increase significantly, reaching its highest point at approximately 25%, showing similar trend with Japan.
By specifically looking at USA, it was clearly seen that the proportion of elderly people was marginally drop and rise, with never as high as almost 3% point. The estimations indicate the further growth for the percentage of population aged 65 and over,with numbers climbing to around 26%, positioning the first place among all.
