Understanding the line between right and wrong at a young age is significant. Punishments are needed to help these children learn this distinction. Therefore, I highly agree since it is a part of youth’s growth and development. This essay will not only discuss my stand regarding this but also lay out probable punishments made by parents and teachers to teach good behavior to the youth.
To help the youth improve and change for the better, I strongly agree that children must learn the difference between right and wrong at a young age, and that punishment would aid in understanding this. Through consequences, children would avoid wrongful behavior repeatedly due to the negative impact of such punishments. These consequences act as a signal to these children to avoid doing such things, which in return, helps them avoid negative behavior. Along the way, they would also learn to integrate mindfulness into every decision and action they would be making; which is a strong characteristic that a person must learn to adapt into their lives to address and solve issues efficiently and effectively. For example, in the Philippines, punishments have helped children understand the effects of doing wrongful and hurtful acts. Statistically, it has been proven in most households in a city that getting into an agreement with a child helps them avoid repeatedly doing inciteful behavior. This positive reinforcement not only serves as a reminder to children to understand the line between right and wrong, but also, to act mindfully and build awareness within themselves and around them. Another reason why implementing consequences helps shape a child is that these support children in grasping the situation better than not incorporating punishments. Instead of not holding the youth accountable for their actions, making them experience consequences would turn the tables around and guide them to learn to be self-accountable and think differently. With this, more and more children become responsible enough to act and behave maturely, as well as, address problems without any other repercussions.
With all that said, there are certain punishments that parents and teachers appropriately could do to teach rightful behavior to the youth. One of them is for parents to set an agreement with their children and ensure that they will abide by it, despite what the child may feel. Parents must stick with the rules and regulations built for their children and the repercussions that these children must face if they are not being followed. For example, millennial parents do not tolerate their children using their phones when they are having dinner or lunch, which is why they don’t let the children eat at the dining table whenever they use their gadgets. Parents make sure that children appreciate the food served in front of them and perceive the feast as a way of spending time with the family and communicating with one another. Particularly in the Philippines, more and more first-time parents adapt parenting rules to their children. This parenting technique drastically changed the behavior of the younger ones and eventually, they learned the importance of obeying rules and regulations and perceiving things differently. Another prime example of an appropriate consequence that teachers must implement is to make young ones act responsibly with their surroundings. For example, within the classroom, teachers in a particular school in Pampanga, make children clean their classrooms daily after classes have ended. They also implemented a law, in which each class every month must participate in cleaning the entire school for a whole day. This led to cleaner and more organized surroundings and served as a constant reminder to students of the significance of self-accountability around them and being environmentally protective.
Overall, I strongly agree that punishments provide support in making the youth understand the distinction between right and wrong. This is because it helps children avoid doing insightful behavior and easily grasp the situation at hand better than without adopting punishments. Through this, certain repercussions parents and teachers could do to teach correct behavior to the younger generation. One of them would be for parents to set an agreement through laws and regulations that children must follow within their household, and the equivalent repercussions if not obeyed completely. Another would be laws implemented by teachers and the school that would teach students to be responsible for themselves and their surroundings such as cleaning their classrooms and the school regularly.
