In many cities, public parks and open spaces are being reconstructed into community gardens, allowing citizens to grow their own vegetables. This decision has both advantages and disadvantages. However, it can depend on environmental and social changes. I personally believe that this practice is beneficial and challenging at the same time. While community gardens provide healthy living, they also present some problems related to space accessibility and community preference.
One of the main benefits of turning public parks into the vegetable gardens is food production. Every person will have the opportunity to grow food by themselves and be independent from supermarkets. In terms of products from the store, society will never be notified about food’s compound. Additionally, Urban’s can be sure that the vegetables they eat are free from any addictives if they grow it themselves. For example in Kazakhstan, people who live in houses often plant their own gardens. Such people have no need to go to the markets and do purchases on rising prices goods.
Despite their benefits, community gardens also present challenges. One vital concern is the loss of land which can serve other activities. For instance, public parks have more opportunities to construct running and cycling roads, children’s playground and other facilities. On top of that if this kind of leisure features will be changed, local residents may be dissatisfied. Additionally, maintaining local gardens requires commitment and resources. Not all citizens have the time or knowledge to care for plants properly.
In conclusion, transforming public parks into gardens has both advantages and disadvantages. While this groves promote healthy eating and saving money, they also raise concerns about resource accessibility, maintenance and reconstructed spaces. To achieve balance, Oregon planners should consider both views. I don’t think there are more benefits rather than drawbacks in this proposal. Because what we gain and lose are very related to each other. Consequently, when deciding this issue, it will be necessary to find out the opinions of two opposing sites.
