The diagram illustrates the different processes involved in producing electricity from coal. This clean energy can have used for various purposes in our society.
The coal from the coal storage will pass through number of process in different equipment to get the best output. Initially, the coal from the coal storages is supplied into the hot furnace through various coal handling devices. This coal is burned inside the furnace with help of oxygen which is supplied from oxygen stored tanks.
The raw syngas which is formed after the heat treatment of coal enters another equipment where the it is purified and removes the unwanted substances like CO2, mercury and sulphur. The slag formed is removed from the furnace through the bottom side. The purified gas with high pressure enters the gas turbine which rotates the turbine blades with high velocity. The generator which is coupled with the gas turbine also rotates and thus produces electricity and supplied to the grid lines.
On the other hand, the hot exhaust gas which is formed in the gas turbine passes through a heat recovery steam generator which produces steam to run the steam turbine. Another generator which is coupled with the steam turbine generates electricity and supplied to the grid lines.
