In 2010, the number of vacationers staying on island commenced at about 750 thousand, more than that of visitors who chose to stay on the ships, at around 500 thousand. In the subsequent years, this figure for island stays doubled to reach the peak at nearly 1.5 million people in 2013 and leveled off before experiencing a slight decrease in 2016 and bounced back in the next year. Meanwhile, there is a nearly fourfold increase from 0.5 million to 2 million in the total of people staying on the cruise liners by 2017, surpassing the other midway through 2015.
