There is a long-running debate as to whether studying a second language should be a mandatory subject for every children as it is identified as a step to success in present days. I entirely agree with this statement and would like to offer my opinion on this topic.
To begin with, learning a second language can increase one’s knowledge. For instance, when people study English as their second language from a young age, it assists in progressing their future career. Moreover, as they are more advantaged than others by knowing more languages, they can become a translator or be promoted at work.
In addition, by knowing a second language, it encourages people to be more socialized. When they travel to other countries, they are able to communicate with local people provided that they have learned the country’s language as their second language. On top of that, culture, tradition, and language are intertwined. By learning a second language, it also means that people are learning about that culture.
Last but not least, if individuals learn English as their second language, they can understand professional terms in science, technology, and medicine. For example, those who are studying in the field of health, knowing English can help them to diagnose patients’ medical condition more accurately. On top of that, individuals can also learn how to control a smart device for socializing, gaming, or working as the default language is mostly English.
Sum of all, it is crucial for individuals to study a second language as soon as they enter school. This provides them a lot of benefits such as increasing knowledge, socializing, as well as learning the lingua franca of science, technology, and medicine.
