Answers & Explanations Summary
| # | Answer | Evidence | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q11 | 1996 | The charity was founded by Nina Barough in 1996 | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript clearly says that Nina Barough started the charity in the year 1996. Answer Explanation: The answer "1996" is the year when the charity organization was started. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is "1996" because the speaker explicitly states the year the organization began. In English, the word "founded" means started or established, which matches the phrase "Set up" in the notes. |
| Q12 | hospital | All the funds collected by Sunwalk go to the hospital; with the idea those fit enough to run use their energy to assist the provision of people who are unwell for whatever reasons | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that all the money gathered by the Sunwalk charity is donated directly to the hospital to help people who are unwell. Answer Explanation: The answer means a place where doctors and nurses care for sick or injured people. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is "hospital" because the speaker clearly mentions where the donations go. The speaker states that all the "funds collected" (money raised) by Sunwalk are given to the "hospital" to help support patients who are sick. |
| Q13 | Half Marathon | You can choose to complete a Half Marathon, 10km or 5km distance | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that runners have three choices of race distance to finish: a Half Marathon, 10 kilometers, or 5 kilometers. Answer Explanation: The answer means a long running race that is half the length of a full marathon (about 21 kilometers). Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is "Half Marathon" because the speaker lists the three distance options participants can pick from: a Half Marathon, a 10km distance, or a 5km distance. The sentence in the form already includes "10k or 5k distance", leaving "Half Marathon" as the missing option. |
| Q14 | sponsor form | You will also receive a sponsor form to start your fundraising and a safety guide - everything you need to get going | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that participants will be given a form to begin collecting donations, along with safety instructions. Answer Explanation: The answer means a paper or document used to record promised donation money from supporters. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is "sponsor form" because the speaker explains what materials participants will get to begin collecting money. In the audio, the speaker says, "You will also receive a sponsor form to start your fundraising and a safety guide." Here, the word "receive" means the same as "Get", matching the note prompt perfectly. |
| Q15 | medals | a team of smiling faces giving out medals to welcome you home | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that friendly helpers will be waiting at the finish line to hand out medals to participants. Answer Explanation: The answer "medals" refers to metal awards given to participants when they finish a race. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is "medals". The speaker explains the race day details, noting that along the route and at the finish line, there will be "a team of smiling faces giving out medals to welcome you home!". This matches the note prompt about what is given or sent to welcome walkers home. |
| Q16 | 100 | By aiming to raise a minimum sponsorship of $100 you could be helping us to raise over $1/2 million on this one day | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript states that each person should try to collect at least 100 dollars from sponsors to help the charity. Answer Explanation: The answer is the number 100. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 100 because the speaker encourages participants to aim for a "minimum sponsorship of $100". In English, the phrase "minimum" means the smallest amount or "at least". Therefore, participants should try their best to raise at least 100 dollars. |
| Q17 | training | We also ask for your commitment to get into training and prepare for the BIG day | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that participants are asked to start practicing and getting in shape to get ready for the major event. Answer Explanation: The answer means practicing and exercising your body to become ready. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is "training" because the speaker says, "We also ask for your commitment to get into training and prepare for the BIG day." In the task, the phrase "get into training and be well prepared" matches this sentence directly. |

| Q20 | A / C / I | there was a sponsored dancing performance at the local school last year, and that did very well it's viable to raise funds by selling small promotional items, such as T-shirts with Sunwalk motif and slogan on them One very dedicated group organised a prize draw recently, which went very well, and it would be good to see more such activities |
Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that a dance show at a school was very successful, selling items like T-shirts is a practical way to raise money, and a recent prize draw was so successful that the charity would like people to do more of them. Answer Explanation: The answer means that holding a dancing event, selling T-shirts, and organising a prize draw are recommended as three successful ways to raise money for charity. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is made up of A, C, and I because the speaker clearly mentions that these three activities were successful or practical for collecting money. First, the speaker notes that a "dancing performance" "did very well" (holding a dancing event). Second, the speaker states that it is "viable" (possible and practical) to raise money by selling promotional goods like "T-shirts" (selling T-shirts). Third, a "prize draw" "went very well" and the charity wants "to see more such activities" (organising a prize draw). In contrast, food events (cookies and barbecue) did not justify the effort, door-to-door collections and selling old bikes were not very effective or profitable, postcards are only being considered, and a concert is only being talked about. |

Sunwalk Charity
I'm very pleased to have this opportunity to tell you something about the Sunwalk Charity. I'll give a brief overview of what we do, and I hope it will be helpful to you. Sunwalk came into being 13 years ago when just 13 women walked the New York City Marathon to raise money and awareness for cancer. What started out as a one-off fundraising event has blossomed into a thriving multi-million pound charity, raising to date in excess of $55 million for vital cancer causes. The charity was founded by Nina Barough in 1996. By 1997, the runs were being filmed by local TV and today they appear on international TV every year. All the funds collected by Sunwalk go to the hospital; with the idea those fit enough to run use their energy to assist the provision of people who are unwell for whatever reasons. Now, if you want to race, let me explain a couple of basics. You can choose to complete a Half Marathon, 10km or 5km distance. After receiving your entry form we will then send you all the information you need to start power walking and getting fit. You will also receive a sponsor form to start your fundraising and a safety guide - everything you need to get going! A few weeks before the event you will receive your hat, T-shirt and walker number. On the day there will be great music, plenty of fun and a warm-up before the start. Toilets and water are provided on the route and a team of smiling faces giving out medals to welcome you home! Small steps make BIG changes... no matter how small! By aiming to raise a minimum sponsorship of $100 you could be helping us to raise over $1/2 million on this one day. Sunwalk will be granting these funds to where we know it will make the most difference to vital cancer causes. Our benefiting charities in the South West include Penny Brohn Cancer Care, Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre and Weston Area Health. We also ask for your commitment to get into training and prepare for the BIG day. What an exchange: you get fitter and many, many people who suffer from cancer will benefit from Sunwalk funds.
OK, that's the big race, but I know there are many people who don't feel they are up to running a Half Marathon race, but who would nevertheless like to raise money for Sunwalk. Over the years, we've had experience of many different ways to collect money, some proved to be very successful. Now, of course, 20km is too much for children, but there was a sponsored dancing performance at the local school last year, and that did very well. People have also tried to organise food-based events, such as selling homemade cookies and jam at the open market, and there was a large barbecue arranged in City Gardens. Although these events failed to justify the efforts put into them, they were very delicious. These days, so many people are full-time workers, so door-to-door collection isn't very effective, but it's viable to raise funds by selling small promotional items, such as T-shirts with Sunwalk motif and slogan on them. We're currently checking to see if postcards, perhaps showing the race's spectacular scene each year might also be a good idea or not. We do appreciate the efforts that have gone into selling old bikes, but to be frank, the return has not been very high on this. One very dedicated group organised a prize draw recently, which went very well, and it would be good to see more such activities. There's also been talk of a concert, but we'll see how plans for that progress. Now, are there any questions at this stage?
