Answers & Explanations Summary

| Q1 | terminal | I presume you'll be coming into Terminal 1? Tanya: Uh, I don't know. I'll have to find out which one it is. Simon: Yes, you must. We don't want to be waiting at the wrong one | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Simon asking if Tanya is arriving at a certain terminal. Tanya says she does not know and needs to check, and Simon confirms she must check so they don't miss each other at the airport. Answer Explanation: The answer "terminal" refers to the specific building or section at an airport where passengers arrive on a flight. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is "terminal" because Simon asks Tanya if she will be arriving at "Terminal 1." Tanya admits she isn't sure and says she will "find out" which specific one she is arriving at. Simon agrees that she "must" do this to avoid him waiting in the wrong place. These details directly match the note requiring Tanya to find out which terminal she is arriving at. |
| Q2 | Pantera | Simon: There is a really good company called Pantera. Tanya: Can you spell that? Simon: It's P-A-N-T-E-R-A. They have a stand at the airport. You can't miss it, and they're really reliable | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Simon giving Tanya the name of a taxi company. He explains that it is a good and dependable choice and spells the name Pantera letter by letter. Answer Explanation: The answer Pantera is the name of the taxi company that Simon suggests Tanya use. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is identified when Simon recommends a taxi service to Tanya. He describes it as a 'really good company' and mentions it is 'really reliable,' which fits the description of the 'best' taxi company. He also spells the name out loud to ensure Tanya gets the correct spelling for her notes. |
| Q3 | east | We're east of it actually | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Simon correcting Tanya's assumption about where he lives by stating he is located in the east part of the city. Answer Explanation: The answer identifies the direction (the east) where Simon's home is located in relation to the city. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is supported by Simon's direct response to Tanya's question about his location. When Tanya asks if he lives near the city center, Simon clarifies that he lives 'east of it,' meaning he lives in the eastern part of the city. He also warns her not to tell the taxi driver 'city center' to avoid traffic. |
| Q4 | 07765 328411 | Simon: Okay, and I changed it recently anyway. Ready? It's 07765 328 411 | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Simon giving his updated phone number to Tanya after she mentions that she needs it. Answer Explanation: The answer is the mobile phone number belonging to Simon. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is found when Tanya realizes she does not have Simon's current contact information. Simon explains that he recently changed his number and says the specific digits of his mobile or cell phone—07765 328 411—so Tanya can write them down. |
| Q5 | hotel restaurant / hotel | Though you'd better bring an evening dress. We'll be having at least one fancy dinner in a hotel restaurant | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Simon recommending that Tanya bring a formal dress for a special dinner they plan to have at a hotel's restaurant. Answer Explanation: The answer means Tanya should pack a fancy dress because she will be eating a special meal at a restaurant inside a hotel. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'hotel (restaurant)' because Simon tells Tanya she needs to bring an 'evening dress'. An 'evening dress' is a type of 'smart dress'. He explains that they will use it for a 'fancy dinner' that will take place in a 'hotel restaurant'. |
| Q6 | raincoat | Ah, we have tons of those. So don't pack one. But pack a raincoat, a good one, cause we'll try and get out for plenty of hikes | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Simon advising Tanya not to pack an umbrella because he has many. Instead, he tells her to bring a raincoat because they plan to go on many walks outside. Answer Explanation: The answer is a piece of clothing that keeps you dry when it is raining. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is raincoat because Simon tells Tanya that they will be walking (hikes) during the rainy season. He tells her not to bring an umbrella but instead to pack a 'good' raincoat. |
| Q7 | walking shoes / shoes | And I'd better remember to pack my sturdy walking shoes. Simon: Excellent idea. It's pretty rugged around here, so they have to be tough | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Tanya deciding to bring her strong shoes for walking, and Simon agrees they must be 'tough' because the land is not smooth. Answer Explanation: The answer refers to the type of footwear, specifically walking shoes, that Tanya needs to pack for her trip. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'shoes' or 'walking shoes' because Tanya mentions she needs to bring her 'sturdy walking shoes'. Simon agrees and uses the word 'tough' to describe how the shoes need to be because the ground in the area is 'rugged' (rough and rocky). In the notes, the word 'tough' is provided as a hint, which matches Simon's description of the shoes. |
| Q8 | Mountain Lives | Simon: It's called "Mountain Lives", and it's Tanya: Hang on, I'm just writing it down. Okay. Simon: And it's by Rex Campbell |
Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Simon saying the name of the book is "Mountain Lives" and identifying Rex Campbell as the author. Answer Explanation: The answer 'Mountain Lives' is the title of the book that Simon suggests Tanya read before she visits him. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'Mountain Lives' because Simon explicitly names the book when Tanya asks for its title to learn about the area's history. Simon also confirms the author is Rex Campbell, which matches the information in the notes. |
| Q9 | chocolates / chocolate | Ah, that's very kind, but she's not drinking so much of that these days. But she'd love some chocolate. You know her favorite | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Simon explaining to Tanya that Janice's tastes have changed. While she used to like tea, Simon says she would now prefer to receive chocolate. Answer Explanation: The answer is 'chocolate(s)', which is the item Tanya plans to bring as a gift for Simon's mother, Janice. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is based on Simon's suggestion during their conversation about gifts. Tanya first suggests bringing English tea, but Simon mentions that Janice is not drinking as much tea lately. He instead suggests that Janice would love some chocolate, as it is her favorite. |
| Q10 | a calendar / calendar | Tanya: I was thinking of bringing a calendar, you know, with horse racing pictures. Simon: What a good idea! He'd love that | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows Tanya offering to bring a calendar with horse racing photos. Simon responds by saying it is a good idea and that Alec will love receiving it. Answer Explanation: The answer means Tanya will bring a paper book used for tracking dates as a gift for Alec. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'calendar' because Tanya wants to find a gift for Alec. She knows he likes horse racing, so she suggests bringing a calendar with pictures of that sport. Simon agrees it is a great choice and confirms that Alec would really enjoy it. |
