When lentils are soft, I combined them with certain spices and let them simmer for a few minutes. At the same time I prepared steamed rice in a separate pot. The whole process takes 40-50 minutes depending on how lentils are quickly cooked. I enjoyed making onions rice. I love Dal Bhat because it is very versatile. I can compare it with various dishes like vegetables, pickles and omit.
