One of the most memorable times I used Chinese was during a trip to Beijing. Beijing was where I faced my first real challenge in communicating using the language. I wanted to buy a souvenir at a local market, but the seller didn't speak English. I decided to try speaking Chinese. I started with 你好, 我叫麦, 这个多少钱? The seller smiled and responded quickly. I made a big effort. I could only catch a few words like 片里 and that kind. But I did my best to keep the conversation going. I compared basic vocabulary with hand gestures to negotiate the price in the end. With some agreement, I even managed to say 谢谢. 很开心认识你。 The seller nodded and complimented my effort. It was such a rewarding experience that gave me confidence in my ability to use Chinese in real-life situations. Thank you for watching.
