Actually, I have heard many amazing and memorable stories. However, one particular story that my grandmother told me stands out. Back then when I was 10 years old, my grandmother shared a story called Zumrat and Command, one of the oldest and most traditional tales in Pakistan. The story is about a family with two steps sisters, Zumrat and Komand, who are completely different in character. Zumrat was kind, hardworking and humble, while Komand was greedy, lazy and selfish. stepmother adored the command but treated Zumrat very poorly forcing her to do all the chores. One day Zumrat was sent to a forest to gather firewood there she came across an old woman living in a small hut. Despite being tired and hungry, Zumrat helped the women by cleaning her hut and offering her the little food she had. The old women who turned out to be magical was moved by the Zumrat’s kindness and rewarded her with a basket full of gold. When Zumrat returned home, her stepmother and command was shocked and demanded to know how she had gotten the treasure. After hearing the story, the command decided to visit the forest herself but unlike Zumrat, she was rude and deeming. Instead of receiving a reward, she was cursed and miss Fortune followed her wherever she went. This story taught me that kindness and hard working always leads to positive outcomes while agreed and arrogance brings bad consequences. My grandmother’s story telling also made me feel bad.
