That’s an interesting question. I’d say that generally speaking the first time I used the foreign language to communication was about two years ago. One day my mom and I went to the supermarket to buy goods while we were choosing the goods. I noticed a man who was clearly confused that he was trying to explain something to the store employee, but he couldn’t. I decided to come over and ask how I can help. We spoke in English and almost immediately it became easier. He relaxed and I felt that I could be useful at first glance. He seemed like a teenager to me, but in conversation it turned out that he was 22 years old and from Korea. He was looking for seafood. He said he wasn’t used to our cuisine yet and wanted to cook something familiar. Familiar. I was happy to greet him to the department. This little conversation left me with a very warm feeling. It was a joy to realize that I was able to help a person by speaking to them in a language other than their native language. At the moment I realized that especially clearly how great it was that I had decided to study English.
