People refuse to eat animals for several diverse reasons. First, for ethical and moral reasons, many believe that killing animals for food is cruel. I once heard a famous Arabic singer say that he can never eat something that has a soul. Second, there are environmental reasons. For example, meat production contributes significantly to greenhouse gases. Moreover, some people prefer a vegetarian or meat-free diet because they believe that meat is unhealthy due to its high cholesterol content. Religion can also be a barrier to eating animals. For example, in India, people view cows as sacred, so they cannot imagine eating them. Finally, some people simply dislike the taste and texture of meat, or they are allergic to it.
