From my personal point of view, the main reason why the number of statues of really famous people is so large is because of their knowledge and popularity. Personally, in my own city, there are many statues of national poets, writers, and even activists. I think they truly deserve these monuments for their hard work, and when especially young and modern people look at these monuments and read the description plaques, they are often inspired by the great things those people have done for their country and their nation. I think it's really important to maintain this large number of statues. There are so many advantages and no disadvantages.
