It is essential that one gains knowledge and experience of working in their field before attempting to pursue it full-time. This experience represents how a day in the future career would look, including the challenges they face and the strengths they need to overcome them. It will help identify the weaknesses they are facing, the opportunities they could pursue, and the threats to their careers that they might encounter. In addition, it helps them understand whether they would want to pursue this field for the majority of their lives and actually enjoy working in it, rather than just entering the field and then regretting being a part of it. Lastly, I believe that work experience certainly helps one adapt and properly understand their field, as well as adjust to what their industrial career would demand, which is something that is not taught in educational institutions. I certainly agree that gaining some work experience is essential because it acts as a litmus test for deciding one's career.
