Overall, Spain is the country that experienced a significant increase, although it showed a gradual rise between 2019 and 2020. Meanwhile, France and Italy reported a slight growth. All three countries experienced an upward trend over the 10 years and reached their highest level at the end of the period.
At the beginnimg of the period, France had the largest proportion of international tourists, was recorded below 70 million, followed by approximately 42 million tourists went to Italy and around 43 million tourists who visited Spain. In 2011, all the countries showed an increase. France stood at around 69 million, Spain around 45 million, and Italy at above 40 million. From 2012 to 2013, Spain, France, and Italy continued to grow. In 2014, France experienced a slight decrease, down to approximately 71 million. Between 2014 and 2016, France showed some fluctuations, while Spain and Italy continued to climb.
Moving to 2017, France stood at more than 70 million, Spain around 64 million, as well as Italy that recorded 50 million. From 2018 to 2019, those countries continued to grow. At the end of the period, France reached less than 80 million, Spain around 75 million, and Italy reached just below 60 million tourists.
