The chart A illustrates the percentage shares of the UK and Australia on the four types of films in 2001, and the graph B shows the figures of admissions in the same countries’ cinemas between 1976 and 2006.
Overall, it is evident that, apart from other types of films, remaining films were screened more in Britain than in Australia. Moreover, cinema admissions in both countries increased over the period, with the UK having greater numbers every year.
In 2001, about 78% of the films displayed in the United Kingdom were of US origin, the largest figure depicted on the graph. In Australia, except from having threefold larger percentage of share on films from other countries, it aired considerably lower proportions of US, British, and Australian films than UK, with 5%, 15% and 8% lesser, respectively.
Regarding cinema admissions, UK had approximately 122 million in 1978, which had plummeted to 50 million by 1984. This figure then grew consistently over two decades with minor fluctuations, reaching at 160 million by 2006. Likewise, Australia’s cinemas admissions also climbed continuously and ended at half the number of UK in 2006.
