The graph displays the amount of CO2 emitted by four distinct nations namely, United Kingdom, Sweden , Italy and Portugal between the years 1967 and 2007. The data is expressed in metric tonnes.
Overall, a mixed trend can be seen, with two of the countries showing a steep rising curve and the remaining two demonstrating a relatively lesser emission of the harmful gas over the mentioned years.
The release of carbon-di-oxide by Portugese was slightly above 1 metric tonne in 1967 which increased steadily to 3 metric tonnes in 1987 and then faced a sharp rise to about 5 metric tonnes in 1997 and then remained steady till 2007. In a similar way, Italians also started with a liitle more than 4 metric tonnes by 1967 which ascended above 6 metric tonnes by 1977 and was the same for a period of 10 years and ended up exhibiting slightly below 8 metric tonnes by 2007.
However a contrary trajectory is seen with the other two places. United Kingdom which had the highest, released around 11 metric tonnes of gas in 1967, which retreated down to 9 metric tonnes by 2007. Swedish people emitted around 9 metric tonnes in 1967 which peaked to greater than 10 metric tonnes and then faced a dip to about 7 metric tonnes and then gradually reduced to above 5 metric tonnes by 2007.
