Overall, coal and gas were the main sources of energy in both years. While the use of coal and gas increased slightly, the production of energy from petroleum decreased significantly over the period.
In 1995, coal accounted for 29.8% of energy production, making it one of the largest sources. Gas was used at a similar level, representing 29.63%. Petroleum also contributed a large proportion at 29.27%. By contrast, nuclear energy made up only 6.4%, while other sources accounted for the smallest share at 4.9%.
By 2005, coal became the largest source at 30.93%, followed closely by gas at 30.31%. Nuclear energy increased to 10.1%, and other sources almost doubled to 9.1%. However, petroleum saw a sharp decline, falling to 19.55% of total energy production.
