The illustration provides an overview of the consumption of three types of junk food in Britain from 1970 to 1990. Overall, while the consumption of pizza gradually decreased, the other two items experienced slight increases during the same period. Notably, fish and chips had the highest consumption rate.
With regard to pizza, expenditure dropped from 800% in 1970 to 200% over the following 15 years, after which it rose again slightly to just over 200% by the end of the period.
In contrast, the consumption of fish and chips saw a significant increase. In 1970, it began at around 80%, followed by a gradual rise to approximately 150% over the next decade. It then surged dramatically, peaking at around 500% from 1980 onwards.
In comparison, hamburger consumption started at roughly 20% at the beginning of 1970 and increased steadily throughout the period, ultimately reaching just under 300% by the end.
