The pie charts illustrate the comparison of proportions on five main sources of energy in the USA in 1980 and 1990.
Overall, oil was the most significant source of energy by far in both years. However, oil decreased its dominance in the market, whilst all other sources increased.
The three biggest sources of energy in 1980 were oil, natural gas, and coal, with 42%, 26%, and 22%, respectively. However, whilst oil decreased its share to a quarter, coal notably increased to 27% in 1990. Despite the minor decrease to 25%, natural gas remains fairly stable source of energy, however coal replaced its second-place position as the main source of energy in 1990.
The remaining two sources had around fifth of the total in 1980 each, whilst one power source remains constant. Of the two sources, nuclear power tell the most, increasing from 5% to 10%. Hydroelectric power remained stable with 5% share in both years.
