The pie chart illustrates where the US got the energy in the 80s and 90s. Oil was the most important source of energy in both decades, but it was used less as did coal Instead they started to use more nuclear energy.
According to the data oil was the main source of energy in the United States using it for 42% of all energy in 1980. The second most important was natural gas, which provided 26% of the energy. Coal provided just over 20% of the energy with hydropower and nuclear power each providing 5%.
In the next decade, nuclear energy provided 10% of all energy which is almost twice as much as before. Hydroelectricity remained at the same level as in the last decade it still provided 5% of energy. Coal and natural gas remained virtually unchanged and were used the same as before. But less oil used its share fell to 33%, which is 10% less than before although it still the most important source of energy in the 90s.
