The graphic displays the proportion of man-smokers in 7 countries as well as the general worldwide trend between years 2000 and 2015. The information is broken down into parts of the increase and decrease in percentage of smoking people in these countries.
First of all, it is interesting to note that the number of male smokers decreased in the world, and was just above 30% in 2015, which is around 10% less than it was in 2000 . The decrease was also visible in Armenia, Bangladesh, Cuba, Mexico, and Australia. While in Egypt and Lebanon the number of males who smoke increased.
In the first group of countries, we observe a more or less steady decrease, even though most of them were exceeding 30% in 2000. In Bangladesh though, the change was the most drastic, dropping from just above 60% to under 40%.
Countries in the second group, on the contrary, used to have a proportion of above 30% in 2000. This number rose to above 40% in the span of 15 years.
Overall, it appears that even though the number of male smokers became smaller in the world, in some countries smoking gained more popularity.
