The line chart demonstrates 2 other languages that 13 year-old students in one educational institute in England selected to study from 2000 to the present year.
It is clear that there was a rapid decline in the number of students who are interested in French. An opposite can be observed in the figure for Mandarin, which witnessed a considerable growth.
In 2015, the number of students who chose French to study was 150, which made French the most popular foreign language. However, the figure witnessed a dramatical drop over the following next five years, from about 150 to around 90 in 2005. Then, this figure continued to increase slightly to 100 in 2006 before ending the period at around 90 in the present year.
On the other hand , those selected Mandarin to learn made up the lowest in the first year. By contrast, the figure experienced a sharp rise to nearly 50 in 2004 before hitting the highest point of approximately 75 in 2005. Subsequently, it fluctuated moderately at roughly 75 until the present.
