The bar graph illustrates the changes in proportion in types of student accommodation during the 1960s to 2000s. The types are rooms in a shared house or flat with other students, student hall of residence, paying guests with a host family, or at home with their own family.
Overall, the most noticeable changes involved students who shared rooms in a house or flat. Starting with 35 percent at the beginning of the decade, the percentage of this category gradually increased to double the number at the end of the decade. Meanwhile, the trend for staying with host families declined in percentage.
A more detailed look at the graph reveals that students who chose the student hall of residence and stayed with their family showed a fluctuated percentage. From the 1960s to 1970s, the former went up while the latter went down, before both decreased. Towards the end decade, the live with own family students stagnated for a bit in the 1990s then grew to 12.5 percent at the end. While dormitory students rose in number from 15 percent to 20 percent, it dipped to 12.5 percent at the end of the decade.
