The bar chart gives information on how four different countries allocated their budget to road and transportation between 1990 and 2005.
Overall, it can be seen that with the exception of the USA, the remaining countries experienced a downward trend. Additionally, while Portugal invested the most in road and transport, the opposite was true for the UK.
Looking at the bar chart in more detail, in 1990, the proportion of Italy’s budget was around 22%, lower than that of Portugal, at roughly 27%. Subsequently, the latter figure declined gradually to 20% in the last year. Likewise, Italy underwent a similar trend as its figure peaked at approximately 23% after falling to 20% in 1995 then dropped significantly to around 18% to finish the period.
Concerning the remaining countries, within the first year, the percentage of government expenditure on road and transport in the UK and the USA was nearly the same, with them being around 10%. The former figure reached a peak of around 12% before witnessing a considerable decrease to nearly 7% in 2005. As for the USA, its figure saw a slight fall of 1% in 1995 then increased dramatically to 15% in the last year.
