Overall, it can be seen that the majority of people in Japan and Malaysia spent most of their money on food and housing, whereas healthcare received the smallest percentage of their income..
To begin, the percentage of spending on housing was the highest in Malaysia, at 34% whereas the Japanese budgeted about 21% for this category. In terms of food, the proportion of the two countries was similar, with around 27% and 24% for Malaysia and Japan respectively.
In Japan, transportation accounted for a fifth of the total expenditure, twice as much as in Malaysia. The Japanese and Malaysians spent the least amount of money on healthcare, with only 6% and 3% respectively being spent on shared expenditures, while a significant ratio is allocated for other goods and services, accounting for over a quarter of the total budget in each country.
