In 1940, the proportion of population aged 65 years and over in the USA and Sweden was 9% and 6%, respectively. Meanwhile, the percentage of recycled waste in the USA grew to 15% in 1980 and then remained steady until 2020, finally was between 20% and 25%. Sweden’s grew to 25% in 2040.
Japan started in 1940 at 5%, the lowest among these three countries. However, it dramatically declined to 5% between 1980 and 2000. Then, there was growth to over 26% between 2020 and 2040, but Japan’s proportion of the population aged 65 years and over was higher in the USA and Sweden at the end of the period.
