The purpose of this essay is to show the percentage contribution of different industry sectors to Turkey’s economy in 2000 and 2016.
In general, some industry sectors changed over time, while others stayed the same. For example, most sectors changed a little, but the healthcare and education sector stayed the same in both years.
On the other hand, agriculture decreased a lot — from 24% in 2000 to 14% in 2016. The construction sector grew significantly: it was only 3% in 2000, but increased to 10% in 2016, more than three times higher. Manufacturing also increased, from 8% to 12%, which shows growth in industry.
The trade, transport and utilities sector also rose slightly from 14% to 16%.
In conclusion, by 2016, Turkey’s economy became less dependent on agriculture and started to focus more on construction, manufacturing, and trade.
