The maps show the changes of the town Langley in 40 years, from 1910 to 1950.
Overall, it can be seen that the Jordan street and Sherman street didn’t change at all over 40 years. There were more stores and townhouses became into flats. The factory, railway line, and wasteland disappeared. Also, the houses along the Sherman street were pulled down and people built Sherman Mansions.
In 1910, the town of Langley had a café, a store and a laundry in the East. Also, there was the Sherman street and many houses along the road. In the Northeast, the town had the wasteland where people could throw trash and garbage there. In the Southeast, there were railway workers’ cottages and the wasteland. There was a factory in the North. In the West, there was a street called Jordan street. Also, there were many houses along it. In the South, there was a railway line.
By 1950, the town of Langley changed significantly and the town became more modern. In the Northeast, the wasteland was destroyed. In the East and Northeast, the café was moved to the opposite side and the laundry was moved to the back of the café. The store was come to the opposite side and there were more stores in the East and Southeast. In the North, the factory was pulled down and replaced by the Sherman Mansions. In addition, there was a New Lane in the South and the railway line was cancelled. In the West, the Jordan street didn’t change at all, but the flats replaced the townhouses along it. In the South, people destroyed the railway workers’ cottages and the wasteland ad buitl a park called Sherman park. Additionally, there was an area for children to play in.
