The bar chart compares the mean cost per kilometer (km) of clothing brought into the European Union ( EU) from six various countries in 1997 and 2003.
Overall, Argentina dominated as the leading country for clothing imports in both years in the given period. While the cost of clothing in Brazil was the same in the given years, the import price for Bangladesh doubled in 2003. Moreover, the prices for the other three country ( Japan, China and India) rose considerably over the period.
Starting with Argentina and Japan, the average cost for clothing import by Argentina was 27.5 pounds while in Japan, it was almost half of that figure, standing at 15 pounds. However, the mean cost for these countries gradually decreased to 25.5 pounds and 13.5 pounds in 2003. Noticeably, the clothing price per km imported into EU stood constant in Brazil in both years.
In contrast, the average cost per km of clothing imported into European countries from China, India, and Bangladesh was at a low price in 1997. Regarding China, the average cost was 10 pounds in 1997, yet it significantly increased to 17 pounds per km in 2003. Similarly, for India the mean cost was around 7 pounds in 1997, and then it grew by 5 pounds to reach 12 pounds in 2003. As for Bangladesh, the mean cost doubled from 3 pounds to 6 pounds in 2003.
