The bar graph illustrates the proportion of time Australian parents dedicated to assisting their children in four tasks, namely dressing, homework, playing games, and preparing for beds in 2013.
Overall, the percentages of fathers during games and mothers in dressing were the highest, while there were little time when both parents engaged in.
Looking first at playing games, exactly 70% of total time fathers assisted their children and only around a third of which was the figure for mothers. Fathers who prepared for their children’s beds took up half of the total, similar to the number of mothers participating in this activity while both only helped for around 6% and 2% of the total time, respectively.
Turning next to dressing and homework, there were similar trends observed in these two categories. Mothers’ help was seen most of the time, each was no less than 60% and fathers’ assistances were only half of which, with 20% and 30% in that order. The periods having both parents were still insufficient, all lower than 11%.
