The maps delineate how a library has been transformed from 1975 to now.
Overall, the layout of the library was primarily used for book displays, whilst the current layout shows more space for seating, a refreshment area and improved accessibility.
In 1975, looking inside from the entrance, there were two new book sectors placed in the right corner, whereas books and magazines shelves were put on the other side. Additionally, the position of the bookshelves and the library desk were located in the middle of the map and parallel to each other, in which the former was put in front of the books and magazines and shared reading spaces positioned behind, the latter was opposite to the two new books shelves. Finally, the children’s bookshelf was also situated at the bottom-right corner, conversely the bookshelves were placed in the opposite direction, and the toilet was at the rear of the library.
In the current layout, the library sees some changes in itself. One of the new book sectors, which is near the entrance, has been replaced by wheelchair access for disabled individuals. Similarly, the sector for books and magazines has been converted into a computer area and the bookshelves sector has also been demolished to become a coffee shop. Moreover, the shared reading spaces have been relocated between the library books and the children’s books and equipped with round and square desks. At the back, the children’s book, the bookshelves and the toilet have remained unchanged.
