The given graph depicts how much Japanese people typically earned in a moth, along with the cost of monochrome and color television over a period of 30 years from 1953 to 1983
Overall, what stands out from the graph is that that while the value of both types of TVs saw a continual decline, the average monthly salary underwent a significant upward trend in the given period.
Regarding Japanese monthly salary, starting at roughly 20,000 yen in the first year, it increased slightly and reached over 30,000 yen after two decades. Before hitting its peak at around 70,000 Japanese yen in 1983, the average income surpassed the cost of both kinds of television.
In contrast, in 1953, the price for black and white television stood at 110,000 yen, and then it plummeted by almost two thirds after almost 10 years; at which point, color TVs were introduced and sold at the relatively similar amount as black and white’s starting point. Subsequently, the following decade witnessed a continual and considerable decrease in the value of both types, with black and white TVs down to about 20,000 yen, while color ones ended at approximately 50,000 yen which was more affordable in accordance with the 1983’s salary.
