Overall, all the destinations witnessed an upward trend in the number of Australian visitors over the period, with China experiencing the most pronounced change. Also, three destinations such as New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States remained as the highest figure during the course of the survey.
Regarding the highest number groups, New Zealand commenced with by far the highest number of goers from Australia, at north of 500,000, after which it experienced a significant increase until 2009. This growth was 113% which remained itself as the most preferred destination chosen by Australian citizents over the period. A similar pattern can be seen in the UK and the US but it was a slight rise. As for two groups, it stayed respectively at 400,000 and 300,000 people, followed by a moderate increase of 240,000 and 100,000 people, which was a respective figure of 60% and 33% growth rate of residents from Australia ten years later.
Shifting towards the remaining groups, Indonesia, Fiji, Japan, China consistently increased their numbers of tourists between 86,000 to 150,000 in 1999 and between 250,000 to 300,000 in the final year. China, though, ranked itselft initially at the lowest point, it showed the most drastic increase rate, at 249%, surpassing New Zealand and positioning into a leader destination for growth rate. Similarly, the three final landscapes such as Japan, Indonesia, and Fiji can also be seen in the lowest point initially, but they obtained a considerable growth rate, at 150%, 127%, 114% respectively. Despite their significant increase, they still remain as the closely lowest firgure of Australian residents.
