The bar chart compares the import figures for coffee and tea in four countries – Canada, the UK, the USA, and Germany – in 2007. Overall, while the UK and the USA imported significantly more tea than coffee, the opposite pattern was observed in Canada and Germany. Notably, there was a much more pronounced difference between tea and coffee imports in the former two countries.
Both the UK and the USA recorded substantially higher imports of tea. The figure for the former stood at staggering 160,000 tonnes, while the latter imported 120,000 tonnes of tea. Coffee imports, however, were considerably lower in both countries, with 20,000 tonnes for the UK and twice as much for the USA.
In Canada and Germany, by contrast, coffee was the dominant import. Canada registered the highest coffee imports of any country, at 80,000 tonnes, whereas Germany imported around 50,000 tonnes. As for tea, Germany brought in 40,000 tonnes, which was exactly twice the Canadian figure of 20,000 tonnes.
