The bar chart compares the proportion of people using distinct means of commuting between the two years 2000 and 2020.
Overall, it can be seen that bicycles and public transport had become more prevalent throughout the surveyed period, contrasting with cars which exhibited a downward trend in popularity and walking which remained unchanged. Additionally, cars remained the most commonly chosen modes of transport over the two given decades.
Regarding the two types of transportation that witnessed growth, bicycles commenced with the lowest usage rate, with only about 5% of people opting for it. This figure then doubled to 10% by the end of 2020. During the same time frame, a similar upswing pattern can be observed in the share of commuters choosing public transport, 30% in 2020 compared to the initial number of approximately 25%.
Turning to the remaining modes of commuting, cars dominated throughout the period, starting with 60% in 2000 before tapering off down to a half of commuters by the end. Furthermore, no changes were witnessed in that of walking, with both of the figures registered in 2000 and 2020 sharing the same number of 10%.
