The chart provides information about plastic waste generation in several regions (North America, Europe, Asia, South America) between 1995 and 2020.
Overall, it can be seen that the plastic waste production increased significantly over the whole period in all regions. However, Asia experienced a substantial rise in plastic waste by the end of the year.
North America had the highest amount of plastic waste in 1995, starting at 30 million tons, while South America had the lowest. Plastic waste in both North and South America increased steadily by around 5 to 10 million tons throughout period. By the end, North America reached approximately 65 million tons, whereas South America rose to about 25 million tons.
On the other hand, plastic waste both in Asia and Europe had dramatically more than in other regions. In 1995, it began with about 20 million tons in Asia and 25 million tons in Europe, while it rose dramatically to 40 million tons and 45 million tons in 2005, respectively. In 2010, the plastic waste accounted for 70 million tons in Asia, whereas around at 65 million tons in Europe.
