Overall, Sydney and Melbourne demonstrated a high number of approved apartments compared to Brisbane and Perth. While Sydney had a steady rise, Melbourne and Brisbane fluctuated and the numbers in Perth remained consistently low.
In Sydney, approvals were approximately 15,000 in 2012. Then approvals experienced a sharp growth, reaching more than 30,000 in 2016. Melbourne began at over 15,000 and reached numbers close to 24,000 in 2015 before slightly going down to just over 20,000 in 2016.
The number of approvals in Brisbane increased from about 7,000 in 2012 to just under 15,000 in 2015, but dropped to around 13,000 in 2016. Even though Perth grew slowly, it had the lowest figures throughout the period, remaining below 10,000.
