Overall, the number of apartments approved for construction in all cities followed an upward trajectory, albeit at varying degrees. Of particular note that the figure for Sydney recorded the most significant rise, while the Perth registered the lowest change compared to other categories over the period,
Focusing on the Sydney and Melbourne, both of them showed big changes. The number of apartments approved for construction in the Sydney increased slightly from 15,000 to around 17,000 between 2012 and 2014, but this was followed by dramatic rise to about 32,000, taking the lead, by the end of the period. Despite a moderate decline from 17,000 to 15,000 in 2012, the figure for the Melbourne went up notably to 24,000 in 2015. Then this figure again faced a gradual fall to around 22,000 at the end of the period.
As for other two cities, they both followed somewhat similar pattern. Starting at 7,000, the index for the Brisbane rose considerably to 14,000. However, that figure then suddenly reduced negligibly to 13,000 at the end of the period. Parth started at only 2,000, which afterwards grew significantly to just over 5,000 until 2014. The figure then stood more static by 2015, after which it decreased substantially to 2016 by the end of the period.
