The given bar chart illustrates the gender disparity across seven types of jobs in Australia last year with employee numbers.
Overall, male domination can be observed in most occupations, except for clerical and professional fields. Even then, the number of men and women employed as professionals was still fairly balanced, which is in total opposite of the huge gap for tradespeople.
First and foremost, it is important to note that there were more men than women in five out of seven job categories, namely managers, semi-professionals, trades, production, and labour. Male employees in trades outnumbered their female colleagues by a signification ratio of 9:1. Besides, a remarkable difference in gender representation is also found in the production workforce, with the actual numbers being 550,000 men to 100,000 women and 600,000 to 200,000, respectively. Meanwhile, the male hires surpassed the female ones by around 150,000 people in semi-professional and 120,000 in labour positions.
On the other hand, women had a strong lead in the clerical field as there were nearly a million women with this expertise compared to 880,000 men. A slight majority of female in professional jobs of 700,000 to 650,000 men is also worth noting.
In conclusion, Australia experienced a great imbalance in employment between two sexes last year, with the direst situation seen in the trades category.
