Presented are two charts illustrating the number of travelers in three individual nations and the kind of transportation they used in one decade, from 2005 to 2015.
Overall, while a wealth of visitors came to Japan more than other countries in 2005, the opposite figures could be seen in 2015. Additionally, they prefer staying at resort to backpacking over the surveyed period.
Looking more closely at the bar chart, there were 500,000 tourists who went to the US, equal to approximately one half and two thirds as much as Japanese and UK respectively. Over the following ten years, there was a significant convergence between the US and UK, with both reaching 1,500,000 travelers. Meanwhile, the number of Japanese tourists fell dramatically by almost half, totalling 1,000,000 tourists.
Regarding types of holiday, in 2005, there were more than 1,600,000 visitors choosing resorts for their vacation, whereas only 400,000 people opted for backpacking. The number of sightseers staying at resorts rose gradually to around 2,500,000 visitors in 2010 and declined rapidly to 1,200,000 people over the latter part of the period. However, travelers choosing backpacking had a steady increase and intersected with the remaining straight line from around 2005 year onwards.
