Overall, boys were more involved than girls, particularly football, cricket, basketball, and table tennis. On the other hand, girls had higher participation rates in swimming and netball. Football was by far the most popular activity among boys, whereas netball attracted the highest percentage of girls.
A more detailed look reveals, approximately 20% of boys played football, compared with only 2% of girls, making the greatest gender gap on the chart. Cricket was also much more popular with boys around 12% than girls roughly 10%. Moreover, a similar pattern can be seen in table tennis and basketball subsequently 12% for both sports compared to girls just about 8% for table tennis and 5% for basketball.
By contrast, netball was overwhelmingly dominated by girls. Nearly 15% of girls participated in this sport, while only about 2% of boys. Swimming was another activity favored by girls, at precisely 15%, compared either with about 5% of boys who joined this sport.
In summary, boys prefer ball sports such as football, basketball, cricket and table tennis, however girls were more active in netball and swimming.
