The bar chart demonstrates the percentage of population in the UK in 2002, 2006 and 2010 who consumed the daily recommended amount of fruit and vegetables. Overall, it is readily apparent that women consistently had the highest percentage, followed by men and children.
Between 2002 and 2006, the percentage of the UK population consuming the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables increased uniformly across the three groups. However, there was a downward trend across all groups from 2006 to 2010. During the earlier period, the percentage for women experienced the greatest growth, rising by 7 percentage points from 25% in 2002 to 32% in 2006. At the same time, the rate of growth for men and children was lower, at 6 percent for men and 5 percent for children.
Four years later, the percentage for all three groups experienced a slight decrease. The percentage for children had the smallest decline, falling from 16% to 14%, compared to men and women, whose percentages decreased by 4% and 5%, respectively.
